Speleology is a set of activities whose main goal is the research of caves, pits, abysses, caverns and underground karst phenomena. The term speleology is derived from the Greek words “spelaion” meaning underground cavity and “logos” meaning science.
In speleology, trained and experienced cavers participate explore known and unknown caves all over the world.
Also in Istria caves and big pits can be explored. The largest Istrian pit “Rašpor” is located in the surroundings of Buzet and is 358m deep. Several smaller pits and caves in the area include “Birbova draga” with a depth of 293m and “Kobljak” being 286m deep.
